www.bpa2017.org for details
Sunday 9th July 10-4pm
Thinking Rider Horsemanship Clinic
Ground: Lungeing. Improve your own body dynamics and have a better understanding on how to read your horse to encourage better movement and rhythm through transitions and throughout the circle.
Ridden: Using obstacles to help us feel how are horse’s move in turns, circles and shapes. Obstacles help us become more aware of what is actually happening instead of what we perceive to be happening. They also often give us a better sense of purpose which helps engage the horse’s mind in the movements
(max 6 horses)
Sunday 16th July 10-11.30am
JUMPING - naturally! (ridden)
Small grid work and bounces. Using grids and bounces to help you and your horse balance and tips on how to use natural horsemanship techniques for balanced turns and approaches to jumps,
(max 4 horses)
Sunday 16th July 12.30-2.30pm
LIBERTY
Work at your level, ridden or ground, work through obstacles, different gaits, bridleless riding, back-up, round-pen work.
Sunday 23rd July 10-4pm
Thinking Rider Training Day
Training in what I've learnt with Karen Musson on the 'Feel through release' Immersion Course
Groundwork: Slow release movements to help reconnect your horse from nose to tail. Karen describes it as releasing the root of the neck, which I feel is like 'Hanna Somatics for horses': resetting the horse back into its innate posture which, in turn, releases physical, emotional and mental brace. These are subtle movements that help us to have an 'inside to inside connnection' with our horses to allow them time to readjust. Part of the training will include help with feeling your own physical braces and tightnesses which have a deep impact on our own ability to 'feel' rather than mechanically try to shape our horse.

August 2017
Saturday 5th August 10-4pm
Thinking Rider Horsemanship Clinic
Ground: Exercises to promote feel and timing in us so that we can release the brace in us and in turn release the horse into softer movement
Ridden: Using the circle as a basis, practice maintaining the essential shape whilst asking our horse for nose-in, nose-out, ribs-in, ribs-out. This promotes flexibility on the horse and helps us establish better connection with our seat and allowing our hands to work more independently
Saturday 12th August 10-4pm
Thinking Rider Horsemanship Clinic: Demystifying lateral work
Ground: practice our body dynamics for shoulder-in, renvers, travers, half-pass and leg-yield.
With the horse: Develop your understanding of sideways and shoulder-in from the ground whilst using good body awareness and dynamics.
Ridden: Set up you and your horse to get the basic patterns for shoulder-in, quarters-in and sideways (working towards leg yield and half-pass). (max 5 horses)
Friday 18th August 7.30-9pm
LINDLEY LECTURE:
Breathing, Listening, Asking and Responding: to myself first, then the horse.
Becoming more aware of your own physical body state helps you understand where you feel emotion and tightness. Using the information received through body scanning and slow mindful movements we can then start to release what we can of our own state or at least hold a heightened awareness of this. This then allows us to be more aware of feeling for our horses emotional and physical state and distinguishing between our own and our horse’s mental, emotional and physical sticky points this is an essential process for improving and refining communication and training for any discipline.
Friday 18th August - Sunday 20th August 9.30-4.30pm
Art of Feel
Body Awareness and Helpful Body Dynamics for Horsemanship
9.30-11am: Mindful Movement - With an eclectic mix of Pilates, Hanna somatics, Trager, Feldenkrais and Tai chi inspired training, each day will begin with a body scan, gentle warm-ups, techniques for freeing up parts of the body we discover are stiff or tight, breathing
11.30-1pm: Groundwork with Horses - as a group each person working at their own pace using the information they've learnt in the mindful movement session.
2-4.30pm: Ridden - 45 minute semi-private sessions working on assimilating the body awareness from the morning’s session into the ridden work.
(max 6 riders)
Saturday 26th August 9.30-11.30am
OBSTACLES TRAINING - no experience necessary
Perfect for youngsters/new/spooky/shy/bargey horses
Groundwork: Use obstacles to develop the relationship between you and your horse. Increase their confidence by leading and stopping them around unusual objects Improve your feel and timing by asking your horse to place feet in and around obstacles and leading them from further away Increase your ability to read horse body language as you negotiate the different obstacles.
There will be plenty of opportunity for advanced handling skills for advanced students (max 5 horses)
Saturday 26th August 12.30-2pm
JUMPING - naturally!
Small more technical practice courses
Tips on how to use natural horsemanship techniques for balanced turns, how to improve power and balance.
(max 4 horses)
Saturday 26th August 3-4.30pm
Martha’s Approach: Working with my horses
Open House to see some of Martha’s horses in training. See how each horse is worked depending on what she feels their needs are, in either liberty, groundwork or ridden.
